BOARD OVERVIEW

A THROW BACK TO THE GOLDEN ERA.

Standing out from Parko’s favourite boards of all time, the original Golden Child became Joel’s new number one after the original Forget Me Not got creased at pumping Kirra in the 2009 Quiksilver Pro semi-finals. His first heat on Golden Child was the final, and after winning that contest, Joel continued on to become champion at both Bells and JBay too.

Whenever conditions suited that year the Golden Child came out, the result was always the same. Joel never lost a heat. It eventually went straight up on the wall at our Kirra factory as a trophy representing the pinnacle of fast, intuitive and powerful surfing. Golden Child is based on the original file from 2009, but with cutting edge influence from 2024 on the deck roll and rails. It’s ridden approximately 1-2 inches longer than your regular everyday shortboard, and either the same width or 1/8” narrower.

Overall, it has a flatter vee deck compared to the dome deck of our more modern good wave boards like the Schooner or FMN3. This brings you closer to the water for sensitivity, providing instant response. Golden Child also has less concave than the Monsta for extra hold, which is complemented by a narrower nose & tail outline for control in critical sections. All of these features come together to complete a model designed for rail surfing, to cut through the water like a hot knife through butter.

JOEL PARKINSON Height: 6’0” (183 cm) // Weight: 85 kg (187 lbs)
*Rides 6'2” x 19 1/4” x 2 5/8” = 32.4L (EasyRider)

MIKEY WRIGHT // Height: 6’0 (183 cm) // Weight: 75kg (165 lbs)
*Rides 6'1” x 18 3/4” x 2 7/16” = 28.8L

RYAN CALLINAN Height: 6’0” (183 cm) // Weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
*Rides 6'1” x 18 3/4” x 2 7/16” = 28.8L

JULIAN WILSON // Height: 6’0” (183 cm) // Weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)

The Golden Child is geared towards good and powerful waves.

GOLDEN CHILD

Features

Rocker

The Golden Child features a Medium+ rocker for greater control in critical sections.

Rail Type

The Golden Child has a flatter vee deck in comparison to our other Performer Series shortboards that feature more of a dome deck. This leads to a slightly fuller rail and overall brings you closer to the water for sensitivity, providing instant response.

Glassing

Sizes 5'6" to 6'4" are glassed standard with 4 x 3oz glass on the deck and 4oz on the bottom. 6'5" and above are glassed 4 x 4oz deck with 4oz bottom.

Fin setup

The Golden Child comes stock as a thruster. Alternate fin set ups and tail shapes are available under custom order.

GOLDEN CHILD

CONCAVE

The Golden Child features a single concave starting at the nose running into a double concave beginning in front of the fins. Slightly less concave than the Monsta for extra hold, which is complemented by a narrower nose & tail outline for control in critical sections.

    Frothing like Grom again!!

Des the legend put me on to this, I coach CT, CS and Quey surfers so by no means do i claim to rip, but this weapon made me feel 20 years younger and doing career turns (felt like it anyway). Frothing like a grom on their first indo trip!!

    Main Pros for Me;

    > Suits my narrower stance

    > Allows me to really drive off that back foot with ease

    > When that rail gets set it slices, still forgiving but you can draw those lines out

I thought their "throwback to a Golden Era" was just a catchy slogan but its not, this board really takes my surfing back to my Golden Era. Cannot recommend this enough. Have only surfed it in head high or above beachies, cant wait to get it on a point/reef break as i feel it will go even better. Strange thing is that It actually feels as though i could surf it in small waves as well but have not tested that theory as yet.
