BOARD OVERVIEW

CLASSIC LINES & MAXIMUM DRIVE.

Our Black Baron twin became a global favourite for mixing old school speed alongside new school flair, with enough versatility to let you ride it in weak beachies or quality, down the line points and reefs. Now we’ve created its little brother, the Red Baron, to take the same diverse approach, but added even more float and glide to really excel when other boards struggle.

Essentially, it’s ridden shorter and wider than your Black Baron, with slightly extra width in the tail outline also providing more flow and easy speed generation. Vee is maintained in the bottom contour throughout, like the original Baron, although a touch more double concave in the Red Baron provides drive and helps you project down the line. Ridden approximately 2 inches shorter than the Black Baron, another point of difference lies in the fins – we’ve designed the Red Baron to use a keel fin template, as the high area and depth delivers control and helps maintain incredible speed on rail. Classic keel fins offer maximum drive and hold, making sure you’re able to get creative even at high speeds on a much shorter board.

*Recommended fin choice – JS Keel Fin for Futures or FCSII Modern Keel template for FCSII bases.

RED BARON

WAVE TYPE

Red Baron performs best in flatter waves where you're looking to generate your own speed.

RED BARON

Features

Rocker

An overall low to flat rocker is well suited to create speed and glide in small to average conditions.

Fin setup

Red Baron comes stock as a twin fin. We recommend our JS Keel Fin for Future boxes and the FCSII Modern Keel fin for FCSII boxes.

Glassing specs

Boards are glassed standard with 4 oz. deck x 4 oz. bottom. (All sizes come standard with Hybrid Fibre tail strips).

Rail type

Red Baron has flat low rails as a result of the board's flat deck, hiding volume in the right places for extra float, but also allowing you to turn at high speed.

RED BARON

CONCAVE

Red Baron features a VEE throughout the board from nose to tail with added double concave through the fins. This design helps rock the board from rail to rail with ease.

RED BARON

OUTLINE COMPARISON

As seen below, we've compared a 5'6 Black Baron to a 5'4 Red Baron, the 2 inch step down. A fuller nose with a straighter, wider tail.

    Small wave machine

This surfboard is such a fun board for small days. Paddles really well, heaps of speed and a load of fun. JS were super helpful making sure I got the right size, and the board was really well packaged and arrived safely.

    Go-to small wave board

I've been riding this board for about a year and it's one that will stay in my quiver until it (or myself dies). It's so fun in anything under chest high and can be surfed in bigger stuff, but the lack of rocker and being a twin means it gets very skatey and hard to control once it gets head high. But in small surf it's such a blast - so fast, responsive and catches waves very easily when people on their short boards are struggling. It's been really good for my surfing being able to practice manoeuvres in small surf with this board. I ride it the same volume as my normal shortboard, 30L.

    Love it

I got this board oversize because I wanted to be able to use it to catch waves in tiny surf or when it's super fat. I've got a JS Xero that I love for anything larger than waist high, or when the face has good shape. I'm 65kg and got the 5'5" 31.3L and let me tell you, I can ride down the line on knee high waves on this baby.

The twin fins on this board lend a unique feeling that is hard to replicate with other setups. It's nice and skatey. The combination of the fins' placement and the board's outline creates a harmonious balance that translates into a smooth, flowing ride. I found that the twin fins provided just the right amount of hold and drive, allowing me to maintain speed and stay in control even in critical sections of the wave.

Another aspect that impressed me was the board's ability to generate speed. The twin fin setup facilitates excellent down-the-line speed, giving me the freedom to explore the face of the wave and tap into its energy. Whether I was going for long, drawn-out turns or launching into WAPAAAHHHs, the "Red Baron" consistently delivered the speed I needed for dynamic and progressive surfing.

Furthermore, the construction quality of the JS "Red Baron" is exceptional. The board feels sturdy and well-crafted, instilling confidence as I pushed the limits of my surfing. The attention to detail and the use of high-quality materials are evident, ensuring durability and longevity.

Overall, the JS "Red Baron" Twin Fin surfboard is a fantastic addition…
