Jordy Smith
Durban, South Africa

Growing up in the burgeoning talent pool of Durban’s New Pier has only honed Jordy’s competitive nature, to make him one of the best young surfers in the world today. He notified the world of his talents by crushing the 2007 WQS Tour and finished off the year an amazing 1400 points ahead of closest competitor. This accomplishment eclipses that of Kelly Slater’s in comparison at the same age. He won the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Word Qualifying Series (WQS) for 2007 and also won the ASP World Pro Junior title in the same year. This huge feat gained the powerful regular-footer a place on the coveted ASP Dream Tour, which only took one year to qualify for.

Before Jordy had even set foot on the ASP world tour stage, he had already collected a 3rd place as a wildcard at the Billabong Pro in Jeffrey’s bay 2006. This sounded the alarm to all other surfers on the world tour that Jordy was going to be knocking on the door as a world title contender in the coming years.

Now in his third year on the ASP World Tour, Jordy is ready to take his surfing to another level, and is feared by many surfers on tour who draw Jordy in their heats. With his powerful turns and his mind blowing aerial assault, Jordy has been tearing waves apart at every stop of the 2010 season.
