JORDY SMITH JOINS THE JS INDUSTRIES TEAM
Coolangatta - Friday 20th February 2009 - Jordy Smith signed on to ride for JS surfboards today in his quest for a world title on the ASP World Tour of Surfing in 2009. Smith now accompanies some of the world's best surfers that are already part of the JS family. Jason Stevenson, (head shaper and company founder) and Jordy have been working together for a number of years and have gained some great results. In 2008, Smtih spent the year trying out other surfboard brands to see what worked best for him, but has returned to ride JS surfboards full time due to his past success with Jason.
"The tractor (JS logo) is iconic to the JS brand, and Jordy has had great success on our boards in the past." Said Stevenson. "He has won many qualifying series events on our boards, and who could forget his unforgettable 3rd place in the Billabong Pro (Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa) in 2007 on a tractor board. I am glad to be working with Jordy again and am proud to have him on the JS team."
The deal will see Jordy representing JS for at least the next three years. "Signing a long term agreement shows dedication and commitment from both parties," stated Craig Pitchers, company co-director and sales manager. "We couldn't be more pleased to have him on board for the long haul."
Jordy resides in Durban South Africa, and at age 21, is regarded as one of the most talented upcoming surfers. After a mixed rookie year in 2008 and a season ending injury late in the year in Hawaii, his focus and determination to be surfing his best for 2009 has been mind blowing.
Smith joins world title candidate and 2008 Triple Crown winner, Joel Parkinson on the JS elite team, along with Bruce Irons, Luke Egan, Mark Occhilupo and Andrew Doheny.
The deal will see Jordy kick off the first event of the "2009 ASP World Tour" calendar riding JS surfboards at the Quiksilver Pro in Coolangatta late february.
Stay tuned for the newest surfboard in the JS range; the "Jordy Smith signature model".
