Andrew Doheny Makes The PacSun Surfing America U.S. Team
Huntington Beach, California (August 30, 2009) - Andrew Doheny, from Newport Beach CA and notably one of the best 16 year old surfers in North America, was chosen by Ian Carins and Surfing America to be one of 5 to represent the US in the under boys 18 division. From here, the chosen 5 will battle it out to see who will represent and surf for the U.S. in the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships to be held in late January 2010 in New Zealand.
Andrew had this to say about making the team, "Super stoked. I am feeling really excited to be a part of the PacSun Surfing America U.S. Team. I have a feeling that this is going to be our year."
Andrew is currently rated #4 on the ASP North America Pro Junior tour.
Andrew Doheny wins Orange County Rising Star of the Year
JS Industries super grom Andrew Doheny has just taken out the OC Rising Star of the Year. Hundreds of thousands of votes were cast during the contest, which started May 27 and ended July 9, Thursday at midnight. This year's contest was expanded beyond just shortboarders, with additional segments for local longboarders, rising star males and rising star females.

Andrew Doheny: The Newport Beach local caught the eye of many in the industry years ago at a very young age and continues on a path to greatness. He can be found at 54th street or Lowers. In the June issue of Transworld Surf magazine, he was named one of 15 surfers to watch in 2009. "Judges have rewarded Andrew's ability to mix rail gouging with above-the-lip trickery," reads the feature article. Known as Droid, or Doho, his sponsors are Volcom, Vans and JS industries. A special nod goes to fellow Newport surfer Chase Wilson, who kept the fight strong against Doheny during the contest.
FREEWAVE CHALLENGE - DOHENY FREE SURFS TO VICTORY IN JUNIOR DIVISION
NEWPORT BEACH, CA -- (October 17, 2008) -- This summer featured an unprecedentedly high level of surfing performances by 16-and-under surfers along Mainland USA coasts, but the wave of the season was ridden by Andrew Doheny of Newport Beach, California. Doheny, 16, won the "Small Fries" division of the Billabong Freewave Challenge Mainland edition with a pair of solid carves and an air reverse on an overhead wave at Lower Trestles on June 20, the opening day of the online free-surfing event. The Small Fries award is just one of five divisions which acknowledge the finest freesurfing to take place in the USA this summer outside of regular surf contests. Other category winners recently revealed include the Best Barrel and the Heartbreaker Female Performance Awards. The top-line Monster Maneuver Award will be announced on Monday. The runner-up in the Small Fries division is Kolohe Andino, 14, of San Clemente, California for his demolition of another Lower Trestles right-hander on September 8, 2008. Andino, son of former US Champ Dino Andino, earns $2,000 for the single ride. Videographer Chris Gabriel receives $500 for his efforts in documenting the performance.
Finishing in third place is another San Clemente resident, 15-year-old Luke Davis who also took advantage of a good, long southern hemisphere swell wave at Lower Trestles on September 11. Davis is rewarded in the amount of $1,500 for his smooth air 360 and Chris Gabriel collects another $400 for obtaining the photographic evidence.
According to the published Freewave rules, the Small Fries Award will be won by "The best performance on a single wave by a surfer age 16 or under at the time of the ride." The rankings of the finalists were determined by a large voting panel made up of the surfers and videographers registered in the event along with select surfing media members from around the world. Over 150 video clips of spectacular surfing were uploaded to the Freewave website with nominees qualifying=20 from a diverse number of surf breaks from all over the East, West and Gulf Coasts of the USA. On Monday, October 20, the final results will be announced in the top category of the Billabong Freewave Challenge, the Monster Maneuver. Vying for $15,700 in prize money (including $5,000 for the winning surfer) are:
